OFFSHORE-WIND
HEC has been following developments in US offshore wind with interest, particularly with an office in downtown Annapolis and staff members who used to work at Sparrows Point. HEC work with US offshore wind started in 2011 when HEC president Keith Michel chaired the Committee on Offshore Wind Energy Turbine Structural and Operating Safety run by the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies, which resulted in TRB Special Report 305 which can be accessed here.
HEC has also participated in the IPF Conference for a number of years and gave a presentation on a Jones Act Compliant Strategy for US Offshore Wind in 2017 which can be accessed here. We have also carried out a market study assessing the range of Jones Act compliant tonnage available that could be repurposed for use in the US offshore wind market.
