Representative Projects: New Builds

The First NSMV-EMPIRE STATE: Designed and Developed by HEC. Done on time and within budget. It arrived at its permanent home at SUNY Maritime on Monday, Sept. 18. HEC won the MARAD contract for the five State Maritime Academies (SMA) that would also function as a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HA/DR) vessel for the US government:( 2015-2023)

• Prepared a preliminary design and full basic design for the NSMV, a new concept, a multi-mission 700-passenger training vessel for the Maritime Administration (2015-Present), and provided ongoing technical design and construction support for the Jones Act construction at Philly Shipyard, Inc.

PAST BUILDS:

• Providing site supervision and inspection services for APT-Kinder Morgan for constructing 4 tankers at the Aker Philadelphia SY.

• Prepared a design for a self-unloading bulk carrier ATB (2014-2015)

• Teamed with the owner to draft performance specifications, conduct trade-off studies for machinery and equipment options, evaluate shipyard technical bids, and perform plan review for 2 Liberty Class Aframax Tankers at Aker Philadelphia Shipyard (2010-2014)

• Produced concept design for rail carrier including General Arrangement, Outline Specification, Accommodation Layout, and Midship Section for Owner’s solicitation of bids from shipyards (2009)

• Worked with owner to draft mission requirements for Aframax tanker and prepared performance requirements and several concept designs with estimated construction and operating costs to allow the owner to evaluate vessel size and configuration.  Supported owner with bid package and shipyard solicitations (2010-present).

• Teamed with the owner to draft performance specifications and evaluate shipyard technical bids for Container and Rocon vessel options. (2007-2009)

• Conducted market assessment, developed performance and service requirements, and produced concept-level ship designs for eleven RoRo and Rocon-type vessels for MARAD’s American Marine Highways program (2010-2011)

• Prepared performance specifications and reviewed shipyard design proposals for deck container barge (2010)

• Performed plan review and technical support for 3 Handy size bulk carrier new buildings at HMD Shipyard in Korea (2009-2010)

• Produced concept-level design of High-Speed Trimaran vessels for trailer transport (2009-2011)

• Performed plan review for 6 TBS Shipping multi-purpose vessel new buildings in China (2007-2010)

• Provided contracting support and owner’s on-site inspection team, and performed plan review for US Shipping Product Tanker Newbuilding (2006-2010)

• Assisted with Ketchikan Shipyard Drydock Procurement and provided owner’s site supervision services in China (2006-7)

• Prepared a preliminary design of a 45k m3 LNG carrier for a unique trade route (2006)

• Prepared a concept design of RoLo vessel with heavy lift capability (2006)

• Provided design development and acquisition support for ConocoPhillips’ ultra-large LNG carriers (2004-2006)

• Performed design review of 2,800-3,000 TEU containership new buildings in support of Owner’s purchase evaluation (2004-2006)

• Prepared the contract design for a 750k bbl tanker

• Performed plan review for a 73,400DWT Panamax tanker new building in China (2003)

• Provided shipyard design support for a 1.3m bbl double-hull tanker (2000)
