STRUCTURAL VISION

Together, let’s navigate the complexities of marine infrastructure with authority, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to unparalleled success.

We understand the critical need for reliable, efficient, and safe Ballast Water Treatment Systems (BWTS).

What sets us apart is our complete independence from any specific technology or vendor, allowing us to provide unbiased recommendations tailored to each client’s unique needs. All vessels sailing in international waters are required to manage their ballast water and sediments according to the standard prescribed by a ballast water management plan. Such measures include installing a BWTS.

An engineering package to retrofit a BWTS onto an existing ship involves:
    • Feasibility study and survey: A survey, often including a 3D scan of the vessel, is conducted to create a digital model of the ship’s ballast system. This is used to determine the best location for the new system and to create a conceptual design.
    • System selection: The right BWTS is chosen based on the ship’s size, flow rate, and other factors.
    • Detailed engineering: After system selection, detailed designs are created. This includes preparing detailed drawings for piping, electrical connections, and structural modifications, sometimes requiring updated drawings for fire safety and stability.
    • Class approval: All engineering plans and documentation are submitted to a classification society for approval to ensure compliance with international regulations like the IMO’s Ballast Water Management Convention and IACS unified requirements.
Installation and commissioning:
    • Prefabrication: Components such as piping spools are manufactured off-site while the ship is still operational to save time during the drydock period.
    • Installation: The pre-fabricated parts and the BWTS equipment are physically installed on the ship, typically during a drydock or at port. This work can be carried out by the ship’s crew or a specialized “riding squad”.
    • Testing: The newly installed spools and the entire system are tested to ensure proper operation before the ship is put back into service.
    • Commissioning and training: The manufacturer and classification society provide final commissioning support. The crew receives training on operating the new system and managing ballast water, including updating the Ballast Water Management Plan and Ballast Water Record Book.
