Scrubber Installation Design and On-Site Supervision

Herbert Engineering Corp. (HEC) provides specialized design and engineering support for the installation of exhaust gas cleaning systems (EGCS), covering open-loop, closed-loop, and hybrid scrubber configurations. While HEC does not design the scrubber units themselves, our role begins at system selection support and feasibility evaluation, continuing through to installation design, integration engineering, and on-site technical supervision.

HEC’s scope includes:

    • Structural and spatial integration of scrubber towers and associated components
    • Exhaust routing modifications, including casing penetrations and uptakes
    • Piping system design (washwater, effluent discharge, caustic dosing, circulation, drain systems)
    • Electrical and control system integration, including interfaces to existing vessel automation
    • HVAC rerouting and ventilation calculations for uptake gas management
    • Incline testing, load impact assessment, and stability documentation updates post-retrofit

Using onboard laser scanning, HEC generates accurate 3D integration models to identify interferences and streamline shipyard work packages. Our team interfaces directly with class societies (e.g., ABS, DNV, LR) and supports approval packages and as-built documentation. During installation, HEC provides field engineering support, contractor coordination, and assists during commissioning and sea trial phases to ensure installation quality and system operability.
