Comprehensive engineering services tailored to the maritime industry
Herbert Engineering Corp. (HEC) provides comprehensive naval architecture and marine engineering services supporting vessel design, construction, operation, maintenance, and conversion. Our expertise spans structural and mechanical system design and analysis, cargo securing optimization, and regulatory compliance support for class and flag state requirements. In addition to practical design work, we apply advanced hydrodynamic and structural analysis using proprietary and industry-standard software tools.

HEC also conducts research on emerging maritime regulations, focusing on their impact on existing and future ship designs. For specialized studies—including risk assessment and mitigation—we develop custom simulation software to support projects commissioned by the USCG, IMO, Marine Board of the National Academies, local ports and government agencies, and private clients.
Piping System Design
Herbert Engineering Corp. (HEC) delivers comprehensive piping system designs for cargo vessels, tankers, and other maritime ships at the contract design level. Our expertise covers everything from fuel gas supply system RFQ specifications and shipyard RFQ packages to fully developed contract drawings.
We support the entire lifecycle of piping systems by performing system calculations, developing and updating Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and converting legacy diagrams into modern AutoCAD formats. Our engineers compile detailed valve and instrumentation specifications, create pipe spool drawings with bills of materials (BOMs), and provide accurate installation specifications—often supplemented with annotated photos for shipyard crews. Our services also include onboard surveys for “as-built” diagram updates, ensuring precise onboard documentation for the crew and inspectors.
Ventilation
Arrangements
Arrangements
HEC also provides design and optimization of shipboard ventilation and HVAC systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant environmental control across vessel spaces.
HEC performs full ventilation system calculations, prepare and update ventilation diagrams, and develop duct arrangement drawings tailored to ship layouts. Our services include equipment specification and selection, ensuring that HVAC systems meet both operational performance targets and regulatory standards. Whether for cargo holds, accommodation areas, or machinery spaces, HEC’s ventilation arrangements prioritize reliability, energy efficiency, and crew safety throughout the vessel’s lifecycle.
