BRAZILIAN PRE-SALT FPSOS

Over four years, HEC seconded one of our principals to a major FPSO contractor to work on the front-end design of the first pre-salt FPSO for Petrobras, as well as two similar follow-on units. All were spread-moored VLCC conversions in approximately 2200 m water depth. The design work focused on riser support and pull-in systems, mooring tensioning systems, and consulting on marine engineering, stability, and hull strength issues. During this project, a new-style Steel Catenary Riser flex joint support was developed with the client, and a supplier was successfully tested.
