Accident, Incident, and Dispute Investigations

ONE Apus Container Casualty

As part of the investigation by the P&I Club, HEC evaluated the cargo stowage compliance with the Container Securing Manual and Class Rule requirements. HEC accessed the vulnerability of the ONE Apus to parametric rolling and the likelihood of parametric rolling in the prevailing wave conditions and ship course/speed at the time of the casualty. HEC assessed the likelihood of container stack failures based on a comparison of predicted Class Rule roll response, predicted parametric roll response, and actual reported roll response. HEC evaluation of the casualty closely matched the subsequently published findings of the February 2024 Marine Accident Investigation Report, by the Japan Transport Safety Board.
