Project Description

New Builds: Rail Car Carrier Design Update

HEC prepared several concept designs for the owner of the Central Gulf Railway, a shipping company that transports rail cars between Mexico and Mobile, Alabama, on dedicated rail car carrier vessels. The concept designs included some with LNG propulsion. HEC then developed the guidance design and specifications sent to shipyards for bidding and contracting for two new vessels. During the detailed vessel design, HEC assisted with developing the rail car securing methods and prepared the Cargo Securing Manual. After delivery, HEC collaborated with vessel technical management to improve the layout of the rails on deck to facilitate loading and unloading of the vessel. (2019-2022)
