Project Description
LNG Propulsion Retrofits
Conversion: MANUKAI LNG Repower Design
HEC assisted Matson with converting the MANUKAI containership to dual fuel propulsion to lower CO2 emissions by utilizing LNG fuel. This project necessitated the replacement of the main engine and two auxiliary generator engines with new dual fuel engines, in addition to the addition of an LNG storage and fuel handling system. HEC managed the integration design portion of the project which included designing piping, HVAC, and electrical systems, modifying existing structure, designing new structure, integrating the new equipment into the existing control and automation systems, and specifying many other new systems and equipment. HEC handled Class and USCG approvals and supported Matson with the shipyard specification. We worked closely with the shipyard and owner’s site team during the installation. We also participated in the HAZID and HAZOP risk analyses, conducted an incline test and prepared the updated stability documentation, and attended gas trials to support final commissioning.
