Project Description
LNG Propulsion Retrofits
Conversion: Matson LNG Retrofit Contract Design
HEC helped Matson convert the largest U.S.-built containerships, Daniel K. Inouye and Kaimana Hila, to dual fuel propulsion. These vessels were originally delivered as dual fuel ready but did not include any LNG fuel storage or supply system, only a dedicated empty hold space for the tanks. HEC redesigned the structure covering the LNG tank hold space and integrated the new machinery spaces for the LNG supply system into this structure, resulting in minimal cargo capacity loss. We also supported Matson and the shipyard with all other aspects of the integration design, including Class and USCG approvals, site visits, and commissioning support during sea trials.
